NANA X

June Scharf Nana XBy merging my membership in Generation X (those born 1965 – 1980) with my status as a grandparent (beginning in 2024), I have created the voice of Nana X.

Content here pursues the grandparenting journey, as experienced by one Nana. Times have changed, along with some of the ways we play roles in our family members’ lives. As a result, I’m on my own learning curve and adjustment cycle. I’m pulling from these experiences to create columns that expose audiences to thought-provoking issues and family dynamics.

Just FYI, Gen X’ers are known as the “latchkey” generation since we were among the first bunch to unlock a door to our homes to let ourselves inside after school while our parents were still at work. What emerged from these circumstances and social forces are people who tend to be independent, self-reliant, practical, resourceful and adaptable. Sometimes we’re referred to as the “forgotten generation” due to being sandwiched between the Baby Boomers and Millennials, both of which have considerable size and influence.
